I'm Jenna & I am a cheese nerd.

Born from a background in both the cheese & wine industries along with a deep curiosity to try something new, Cheese Odyssey brings together exceptional cheeses with thoughtfully selected producers across South Australia’s iconic regions, including the Adelaide Hills, Barossa, and McLaren Vale.

At its heart, we are about the experience of discovery. Each tasting is carefully curated to challenge expectations, uncover unexpected pairings, and share the stories behind Australian cheesemakers. If this cheese had a name - introducing you to some of the finest Aussie artisan cheeses, with a twist!

VIC: Le Rouge Washed Rind by L'Artisan Organic Cheese

What a beautiful cheese! The rind being emphasised with the addition of annatto (the naturally occurring dye from the Annatto tree) to then being washed to really bring out the colour.

The valleys and troughs of the rind and gooey centre are a sight to see. Delightfully stinky upon unwrapping, though it does dissipate when fully unveiled(or am I just used to it?!).

Selecting cheese from a supermarket and not the maker itself does have its drawbacks(underripe, too ripe, too small a piece etc etc) but this selection, to me, was just right. The paste was gooey but not runny, the rind was well formed and uniform with a pleasant taste, not bitter at all. The paste was extremely smooth and coated the inside of your mouth which had a beautiful, delicate flavour.

All bark and no bite as they say? Such a visually appealing cheese. I love the idea of adding annatto to the rind, only to emphasise its beauty!

Based on the vibes, this cheese is definitely a Jess!

VIC: Driftwood by Long Paddock - Castlemaine.

A soft-ripened cheese wrapped in spruce bark, made in the traditional technique of Vacherin Mont d’Or, it helps the cheese hold its shape as it ripens, while also adding subtle woody aromas. 🧀

At first glance, it might look intense — with its mottled, colourful rind — but don’t be fooled. It’s actually a very approachable cheese. You’ll often find a small sticker on the packaging reassuring that the mould on the rind is safe to eat. That’s a great touch, especially for those new to artisan cheese.

How I suggest enjoying Driftwood? Cut off the top and dive straight in! The paste is soft, silky, and packed with umami — that deep savoury flavour we all crave. The rind brings a gentle, earthy mushroom note, similar to a brie or camembert, but without any bitterness.

10/10 would purchase again!
